Teachers face a tremendous challenge in keeping students motivated and excited about learning.
They have to come up with ways for their students not to get bored during classes, and have their attention during discussions.
One effective method that motivates students to do better is to give them rewards.
For instance, this teacher gives his honor students rewards every grading period.
Lemuel F. Java is a Grade 9 Values Education teacher from Ramon Torres National High School in Bago City, Negros Occidental.

Although Teacher Lemuel uses his own money to buy goodies and make certificates, he does not seem to mind as he does it to help motivate his students.
According to Teacher Lemuel, he wants his students to know that they will get something good, in exchange for the hard work they put out.
And this is the reason why he decided to go with this method.
In addition to this, he also provides a certificate of recognition for each honor student every grading period, along with some prizes.

On his Facebook, he shared photos of the rewards he gives to his students. A tub of chocolate wafer sticks, cute ballpens, and even certificates.
Furthermore, he also invites the parents on his simple recognition programs.
Teacher Lemuel feels sorry that he can only give simple rewards, but many netizens actually commended him for it.
“I just want to make them feel appreciated sa mga efforts nila. In my own little way masarap din sa feeling na na aappreciate din nila yung binibigay ko. Since nag start ako sa aking teaching profession, yes lagi ko na to ginagawa sa advisory ko na nakakakuha ng honor,” Teacher Lemuel told The Summit Express.
(I just want to make them feel that their efforts are appreciated. In my own little way. It also feels good to know that they appreciate what I give them. I’ve always done this ever since I started teaching)
