The Ruach Elohim Foundation in Namibia smashed through the front wall to create a baby safe for abandoned newborns. As a result, the organization has won accolades from all throughout Southern Africa for providing a safe haven for unwanted newborns.

The Ruach Elohim Foundation, which means “Breath of God,” is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about baby dumping and accepting unwanted, abandoned, abused, and neglected children in Namibia.

We are delighted to applaud the positive developments in our neighboring nations as members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Many women throughout the world have felt the burden of dealing with undesired pregnancies or the sensation of being overwhelmed when attempting to raise a child in these difficult economic times due to the status of the world. It has increased the importance of organizations like the Ruach Elohim Foundation.

In 2019, the organization decided to take the next step in their mission by constructing a baby safe where women could safely deposit unwanted newborns. The safe allows a birth mother to place her baby where it will be picked up right away and will be safe. Swakopmund and Walvisbay are now their two places.

The safe also enables for anonymous storage without fear of being judged or prosecuted. Several organizations are attempting to save abandoned newborns. In South Africa, for example, there are numerous baby hatches or safes located around the country.
Back in 2019, we featured the one installed by NPO Philisa Abafazi Bethu. It’s called the Baby Saver and it’s located at 69 Hillview Avenue in Lavender Hill. A little girl has already been given a second chance thanks to that baby safe.
